Smart Remote Access Server (Smart-RAS)
Smart-RAS allows you to access your school network from home, enable you to run application software such as Microsoft Office, and various School Administration packages.
Clients capable of running a Remote Desktop Client can connect to the Smart-RAS server, enabling those computers to run Windows programs.
Smart-RAS may also be set up to automatically download Microsoft Windows updates and distribute them to Windows workstations on the network.
Description
Smart-RAS is ideal for remote access from remote locations. It is based on Microsoft technologies, leveraging the power of Remote Desktop and Terminal Services.
Installing Smart-RAS alongside a Smart-Net server will provide increased security, functionality and remote management as your data is stored on the Smart-Net server, not on the Smart-RAS.
Internet Requirements
An Internet connection (broadband) is required for your server - We highly recommend a flat rate Internet connection.
A static IP, supplied by your ISP, is also essential. If your ISP can not supply you a static IP, we can provide you a Smart Static at a minimal monthly fee.
A broadband connection is required at home. The greater the speed, the better the experience will be. For machines within the school, the speed of your network will determine the experience. Ministry of Education guidelines should be followed when designing your network but at least 100Mb connectivity is expected.
Server Requirements
There are two options for running a Smart-RAS server in your environment.
Option 1: Dedicated Smart-RAS Server
We will supply Smart-RAS on a dedicated server which may also be utilised as a workstation while offering terminal services to remote users.
Option 2: Virtualized Smart-RAS Server
Reduces the total cost of server ownership and increases hardware utilisation on your existing Smart-Net server. A minimum of 2GB RAM and 80GB of available storage space are required on your Smart-Net server.
